THE CURVY CON: DIA & CO FASHION SHOW

Plus-size beauties ruled the runway at theCURVYCon’s first-ever fashion show, a stylish celebration of body diversity. TheCURVYCon’s, body-positive convention was conceived by plus-size bloggers Chastity Garner and Cece Olisa, had its first fashion show in the three years since its start. The fashion show, hosted by plus-size style subscription service Dia & Co, featured designs by Rachel Roy, Rebel Wilson, Molly & Isadora, Nanette Lepore, and Girl With Curves, just to name a few.

Over 20 model including, Liza Golden, Precious Lee, and Marquita Pring hit the catwalk alongside WWE wrestler Nia Jax, and curvy YouTube vlogger Loey Lane.

This was my first plus size show of the season and I'm very happy to say it wasn't my last. The fashion on the runway was good and stylish but I wanted more.  Truthfully, I am use to more fashion forward clothing during fashion week but I do realize the purpose of this show was to highlight fashion designs that women would by able to purchase right now.   With that in mind, and the idea that their was a time that plus size fashion was not even available during fashion week, the show was great.

I thought the models did a very good job and was happy to see women of all different sizes, shape and ethnicity.

The Curvy Con was a two-day event September 8th to 9th in New York City was a bonanza of style, group workouts, and body-positive dialogue aimed to promote inclusivity in the fashion industry. If you missed it you can read up (and maybe see some photos) on yahoo style. Click Here

NY STYLE FASHION WEEK: DAVID TUPAZ SS18

FASHION IS THE EXTENSION OF OUR PERSONALITIES. IT DIGNIFIES OUR HUMANITY JUST LIKE ART AND MUSIC. I BELIEVE IN CAPTURING ELEGANCE; AN ALLURE OF ROMANTIC FEMINISM WITH A TAILORED TWIST. IT SPEAKS OF A MODERN DIGNIFIED GRACE...-D. TUPAZ

David Tupaz is hailed as couture's new genius!!!! What makes David stand out among other designers is not only his elegant and stylish haute couture work but also his passion for his craft, love for his clients, attention to detail and pursuit of excellence.

This season while showing during Style Fashion Week, David did give couture but also gave items that could be ready to wear.  I was over joyed by his black and white dress coats with black and white head wraps.  His not to modest fashion shows that you can be fashionable was just the write touch to an already amazing show.  Plus, the embroidered flower detail was a great touch.

Overall I loved David's collection of this season. I cant wait to see how is Asian inspired show translate into his ready to wear fashion line.  But most things I can see falling strait off the runway into stores.

STYLE FASHION WEEK: ADRIAN ALICIA

Adrian Alicea latest collection was presented at Style fashion week  on the famous Intrepid.  The couture designer has been making his name through the fashion world for the past two year.  But please don't think that Adrian is new to the game.  He has been focusing on establishing his own aptly-named line, Adrian Alicea Haute Couture, separate from his partner line Nico & Adrian NY.

Alicea's lines focus on his Latino and Taino Indian culture and his dancer's background.
For this collection, you got a very latin feel.  Rather through the short shorts or the very vibrant prints or the jackets with no shirt.  I loved the latin feel in every piece that came down the runway.

Also, I felt this collection was very different from his collections of before.  Most of the Adrian's collection of the past has been dramatic and red carpet ready.  This collection seem much more ready to wear.  His patters were eye catching but was balanced out by being in very simple tailored desings.  I found the collection very ready to wear and I wanted to search to find where to get every single garment.

I loved how he also broke up the pattern with neutral colors of nutmeg, off white, grey and navy.  If the items were not complicated in pattern they were complicated in design.   I have followed Adrian fashion for a while and I can see a sophistication and growth in his designs.  I guess he realized his customers want to wear his designs in everyday life.

I was really shocked (in a good way) at the collection.  Im happy that with the designs, colors and overal story this line told.   Now to get them in my size, but thats another discussion.

I will leave you all with a quote from the designer himself....

“…my heart. I make everything by hand. I love color. I love music. I love dance. I want my designs to make people happy, so each piece is unique. I put everything into my work--my heart, my soul, my love. I want everyone who wears my designs to feel special, to feel proud…to know they are different and that they have a right to be.”

I had such a great time and was super inspired by all the creatives in the house.  Also having a fashion show in one of NYC most iconic museums was just the icing on the cake.
