THE CURVY CON: DIA & CO FASHION SHOW

Plus-size beauties ruled the runway at theCURVYCon’s first-ever fashion show, a stylish celebration of body diversity. TheCURVYCon’s, body-positive convention was conceived by plus-size bloggers Chastity Garner and Cece Olisa, had its first fashion show in the three years since its start. The fashion show, hosted by plus-size style subscription service Dia & Co, featured designs by Rachel Roy, Rebel Wilson, Molly & Isadora, Nanette Lepore, and Girl With Curves, just to name a few.

Over 20 model including, Liza Golden, Precious Lee, and Marquita Pring hit the catwalk alongside WWE wrestler Nia Jax, and curvy YouTube vlogger Loey Lane.

This was my first plus size show of the season and I'm very happy to say it wasn't my last. The fashion on the runway was good and stylish but I wanted more.  Truthfully, I am use to more fashion forward clothing during fashion week but I do realize the purpose of this show was to highlight fashion designs that women would by able to purchase right now.   With that in mind, and the idea that their was a time that plus size fashion was not even available during fashion week, the show was great.

I thought the models did a very good job and was happy to see women of all different sizes, shape and ethnicity.

The Curvy Con was a two-day event September 8th to 9th in New York City was a bonanza of style, group workouts, and body-positive dialogue aimed to promote inclusivity in the fashion industry. If you missed it you can read up (and maybe see some photos) on yahoo style. Click Here

I had such a great time and was super inspired by all the creatives in the house.  Also having a fashion show in one of NYC most iconic museums was just the icing on the cake.

NYFWM: NICK GRAHAM GIVES FASHION WEEK WHAT IT NEEDED....COLOR

LAST YEAR Nick took us to Cuba.  This season, he took us under the sea!!! From the opening I knew this was going to be a great collect, and Graham didn't let us down.

The collection started with he classic shades of blue and white giving us a nautical feel.  As the collection continued I thought this would be the only colors in the collection and would have been very happy with that because I love these colors. As the collection went on the blues took on a lighter saturation of blue.

The collection quick change to very bright and vibrant colors giving the collection a jolt of color. The colors chosen seem to be inspired from the coral and plant life of the sea.

Finally the collection ended with a high saturation of red that pulled everything together.

This collection was just amazing.  From the crab, lobsters and birded added the the shoulders, the colors nets, and even the fringe rope belts.  The collection was well put together and a great representation of what is to come from this great designer.  This collection was a great different from the grays, navy, black and white of all the other shows.  After looking and collection after collection of gray loose fit slacks, its was nice to see color, and creative styling in a fashion show.  This show I will look forward to see every season.

Congratulations on a successful collection!!!!

NYFW MENSWEAR: NICK GRAHAM SS17

“It was a fascinating period, with the Tropicana Club at the center of the action.  Americans would come in droves and party like they couldn’t in the United States,”- Nick Graham

As you walked into this fashion show you were hit with the sound of a full Cuban Band playing.  It was evident from the band and the names on the platform that this was going to be a production and not just a show.  This has come to be expected from designer Nick Graham.  From the fall birds, twigs and bark of last season to the salsa, showgirls and samba of  this season, Nick Graham presentation of  "OUR MEN IN HAVANA"  emerge for NYFW menswear.

Celebrities, Stylist and Scientist all loved Nick Gram Collection
This collection pays homage to Havana of the 1950's were mobsters, gangsters and royalty alike went to have a good time.  “Once Havana fell, the Americans moved to Vegas, along with the showgirls and everything else that came with it.” With a good time in mind, Graham fashion show started with  show girls dancing in amazing revealing costumes, feather head dresses and smiles.  Each model was introduced as a covert fashion detective with was fictionalize agent names like "Faux Fur Fidel from CUBA" & "Knickers Knickerson from  EAST GERMANY" to name a few.

Here are a few of my fave looks...
Faux Fur Fidel - CUBA. Chad White.
White Straw Fedora, 3-Piece Linen Suit, Exploded Fern Print Shirt.

Dr. Maybe (Dr. No, medicated).  Emmanuel Amorin.
Blue Microcheck 3-Piece Suit, Fleur de Lys shirt, Blue Polka Dot Tie, Tie Bar, Paisley Pocket Square.

Elastic Evansson - FINLAND. Sebastian Sauve.
Blue Window Pane 3-Piece Suit, White Shirt, Blue Knit Tie.
Nick collection was a blend of linens and seersucker which is key for spring/summer fashion for men.  The Cuban influence was represented all through the collection.  With tropical short suits, floral print tops and crisp all white suits with small hits of blue the Cuban 1950's influence was very easy to see.  With flowing scarfs, loafers and wide brim fedora, the accessories top off the collection perfectly.

Designer, Nick Gram, giving his last jump and thank you
